NEW DELHI: The C Joseph Vijay-led Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday withdrew an order barring students from joining protests organised by Left parties and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).Earlier, the directive had asked education departments, police and district administrations to coordinate efforts to discourage participation and submit reports on the action taken.The communication, issued by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, specifically referred to protest and agitation programmes organised by Left-wing parties and the CJP. It had asked officials to take “appropriate action” to prevent students from participating in such programmes.

The order, however, drew questions over why the two political formations had been specifically named. Following the criticism, the Directorate of Collegiate Education revoked the directive on Wednesday.
