BULANDSHAHR: A 25-year-old UP Police constable allegedly died by suicide while on patrol duty in Bulandshahr’s Aurangabad police station area early on Thursday morning, hours after he purportedly recorded an audio message accusing three colleagues of harassment and denying him leave for ‘severe abdominal pain’. The accused officers have been attached to Police Lines pending an inquiry.Sudhir Thakur, a 2025-batch constable and resident of a village under Iradatnagar police station in Agra, had joined duty two months ago in Bulandshahr after completing training. Police said he was deployed on motorcycle patrol on Wednesday night when he complained of severe abdominal pain and sought leave.A few hours later, around 3am, Thakur allegedly shot himself with his service rifle while on duty. He died on the spot.In the purported audio, which later surfaced on social media, Thakur is heard saying, “I’m resigning from both my job and life,” while accusing Aurangabad station officer Rahul Chaudhary, head constable Ankit Gurjar and constable Sudhir Kumar of harassment. He also alleged that Chaudhary had threatened to suspend him if he did not perform his duty.SP (city) Abhishek Pratap Ajeya said Thakur’s body was handed over to his family after postmortem. “Based on the audio and the family’s allegations, the three policemen have been attached to Police Lines and a probe has been initiated against them,” the SP said.Thakur’s distant relative Bheemchand alleged that he was under constant stress. “He had told the family about the mental pressure he was facing. On Wednesday night, he said he was unwell and would take rest for a couple of days,” he said.
