CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu school education minister A Rajmohan termed the demand for the removal of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged unilateral decisions during the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise — which resulted in the deletion of over 13 crore electors — as “diversion tactics.” He said the TVK would not yield to such gimmicks and remained firm on its opposition to the SIR exercise.“The entire process of SIR is a scam. We have been opposing it from the beginning. We continue to oppose it. Our leader had issued a statement against this earlier itself. He made it clear that the SIR exercise should be streamlined to ensure a free and fair election,” said the minister, responding to a question on why the TVK was remaining silent over the alleged unlawful acts of Gyanesh Kumar that was exposed by The Indian Express newspaper.He said Gyanesh Kumar was being made a “scapegoat” to divert attention from the deeper issue. However, the party would not yield to such a gimmick. “Removing a single person from the post will not address the issue,” he said, adding that the party insisted on revamping the entire exercise.
