BHOPAL: CBI filed a 636-page chargesheet in the Twisha Sharma death case before a special court here on Monday, charging her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a former district judge, with dowry harassment, abetment to suicide and committing a crime with common intention, under BNS sections 85, 108 and 3(5).During the last hearing on Aug 11, the CBI court of judicial magistrate first class Shibhana Bhalavi directed the investigation team to file a final report in the case on Aug 17. However, while submitting its chargesheet, CBI requested the court to allow it to carry on with further investigation. A supplementary chargesheet naming more persons as accused may be filed after the probe concludes.Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha’s family, said although the investigation was yet to be completed, CBI filed its initial chargesheet at the court’s behest as 90 days of Samarth’s arrest would be over on Aug 18.Twisha’s family was unhappy with the CBI chargesheet and alleged that she was murdered. Her mother asserted she could not have committed suicide. Pandey suggested that they had an option to file a ‘protest petition’.However, defence counsel Enosh George Carlo said it was clear from the chargesheet that Twisha’s death was not a dowry death and there was no monetary or any other kind of demand from her by her in-laws.
