BHOPAL: A 30-year-old man from Gwalior allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a train, leaving behind a five-page handwritten note accusing three men of cheating him of Rs 23 lakh on the promise of arranging a Rs 3.45-crore loan against his land.The deceased, identified as Jaspal Singh Yadav, had been missing since Saturday. His body was found on the Jhansi Road railway tracks late Sunday and was identified by his family on Monday morning. Police have seized the suicide note and launched an investigation.In the note, Jaspal, who described himself as a supporter of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, wrote: “Scindia-ji, by the time you read this letter, I will have left this world.” He appealed to the Union minister to ensure that the accused were punished and that the money allegedly owed to him was recovered for his father.According to the suicide note, Jaspal alleged that Ravi Kumar of Tekanpur, Ashish Gupta and Ravi Jatav of Dabra lured him with the promise of a Rs 3.45-crore loan against his land, valued at about Rs 1.5 crore. Claiming the loan had been sanctioned by Piramal Bank, they allegedly showed him what appeared to be a sanction letter and collected Rs 23 lakh from him to facilitate the process.Jaspal alleged that the money was taken in February 2025, but despite repeated assurances, the loan never materialised. He claimed the accused continued to make excuses until July 2026 before disappearing. To arrange the money, he wrote, he had borrowed at an interest rate of 20%, causing his liability to rise from Rs 23 lakh to nearly Rs 35 lakh.The suicide note further alleged that Ravi Kumar had cheated several other people using the same modus operandi. Jaspal claimed he traced the prime accused to his brother-in-law’s house in Kulaithpura village, where a village panchayat was convened and Ravi Kumar allegedly promised to return the money by July 30. However, he allegedly fled again to Kuchwa Gurjar village in Gohad, where another relative sheltered him. Jaspal alleged that when confronted again, the accused initially agreed to sign a written settlement but later backed out.“I wanted to live, but Ravi Kumar ruined my life,” Jaspal wrote. He claimed he had mortgaged his Bullet motorcycle, gold ornaments, his Safari SUV and other assets to raise the money. The note also alleged that another person, identified as Lalla Balaram, had been cheated of Rs 9.8 lakh in a similar manner.Before ending the note, Jaspal appealed directly to Scindia, urging him to ensure that the accused received life imprisonment and that the money due to him was recovered and handed over to his father.Police have seized the five-page suicide note, which contains the names, mobile numbers and addresses of the accused, and launched an investigation. Gwalior SSP Dharamveer Singh Yadav told TOI that police are verifying all the allegations made in the note. “We are looking into the matter from every angle. A thorough probe is underway, and strong action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” he said.
