MUMBAI:A sailor, his wife and their two children, aged two months and three years, were found dead at their residence in Mumbai’s Navy Nagar, prompting a detailed investigation by police.The deceased have been identified as Puranmal Shambulal Mehra (30), his wife Oma Puranmal Mehra (28), their three-year-old son Yash Puranmal Mehra and their two-month-old infant. Puranmal, who was serving as a sailor, was found hanging inside the residence, while the bodies of his wife and two children were found on a bed.Preliminary inquiries suggest that Puranmal allegedly died by suicide by hanging. Prima facie findings indicate that Oma and the two children may have died due to suspected poisoning. However, police officials said the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem and forensic examination reports are received.Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are conducting further investigations. All four bodies were shifted to JJ Hospital for post-mortem examination after completion of the inquest panchnama.Police are examining all possible angles and collecting forensic evidence from the scene. Investigators are also recording statements of family members, neighbours and other relevant witnesses to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the deaths.The circumstances that led to the suspected suicide and the deaths of Oma and the two children are yet to be established. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details are awaited.
