Mahendran on power-cut gaffe: What I wanted to convey has been misunderstood’
My question was to people who do politics with the issue and not to the people who raise their concerns. I respect the common people, says Mahendran.

Actor ‘Master’ Mahendran found himself in the middle of a controversy last weekend after his remark on the recurring power outages reported in Chennai. In an interview, commenting on the power-cuts, the actor had asked, “Why do you question everything?” And his comment about installing “solar system” became an instant troll material on social media.Speaking to us, Mahendran clarifies, “My question was to people who do politics with the issue and not to the people who raise their concerns. I respect the common people.”The actor adds that he only wanted to reiterate Chief Minister Vijay’s request – to give him six months to fix issues before criticising his government. “Sadly, that point has been misunderstood,” he says.Admitting his gaffe of using a wrong term for ‘solar panel’, he shares, “All I wanted to suggest with that remark was promote the usage of solar power having read about the Kochi airport, which is the world’s first fully solar-powered airport, and the Pasumai Veedu scheme initiated in Tamil Nadu by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.”

Do you think comments made by Mahendran were taken out of context?
