Vijay’s fans celebrated the much-awaited release with unbridled enthusiasm in many theatres where the first day first show was packed. Fans were seen dancing, chanting slogans and welcoming the film in a grand style, with videos from Chennai, Bangalore, Madurai and several other cities going viral on social media.

One of the loudest moments inside theatres was Vijay’s title card appearing on screen. The film didn’t give him the usual credit on screen but introduced him as “Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu – CM Vijay.” The audience went wild with thunderous cheers. Fans were on their feet, blowing whistles and recording the moment on their phones; many called it the biggest highlight of the opening show. ‘Jana Nayagan’ was not a smooth journey. The film was initially scheduled for a Pongal release on January 9 but the release was delayed due to certification issues that caused the makers to fight legal battles in the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court. The production was also hit by the leaking of a full copy of the film onto the internet months before its scheduled cinema release. Despite the piracy problem and legal hurdles, the makers proceeded, and the film finally landed in theatres with huge expectations and overwhelming fan support.
