Hundreds of citizens from over 30 countries have been reported missing in the Nepal tragedy, while the death toll has risen to 469. This includes tourists, pilgrims, security personnel, and locals.About 1500 people are said to be missing, as of Friday morning, AP reported. A number which could vary as rescue efforts continue and more bodies are recovered.The number of missing from Wednesday’s disaster may vary because of progress in the ongoing rescue efforts and differences in how data was collected and verified among agenciesThe worst-hit countries are where the disaster took place: Nepal and China.On Friday morning, Nepal’s disaster management authority reported the missing number to be 977. A day earlier, the missing numbers included 113 Nepali tourists, 85 military/police personnel, and 162 local residents, according to the National Emergency Operation Centre.Meanwhile, the Chinese state media on Thursday reported at least 558 missing in Gyirong County, Tibet. 260 of the 558 missing people were foreigners, CCTV reported.Additionally, China’s foreign ministry said nearly 100 Chinese citizens were missing on the Nepali side.No contact could be established with 288 Indians, including 73 working on a power project, according to the ministry of external affairs. Many of the victims were on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, which is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.While no American deaths have been reported yet, the US State Department said 90 people couldn’t be traced.55 Ukrainians have also been reported to be missing by the country’s foreign ministry, including two tourist groups and an individual woman.The Australian government also reported that 39 of its nationals couldn’t be located.In addition to the data provided by the respective countries, Nepal’s tourism board has reported 33 Britons, and 25 Canadians.Eight Singaporeans, Germans, and Russians, each. Six South Africans and Latvians, each.South Korean government officials said nine citizens working on the construction of a hydropower plant were missing.The board also reported six South Africans, six tourists from Latvia and five people from New Zealand missing. Japanese media said the five missing Japanese tourists were a couple and their children.The tourism board further said four French citizens, three people from Belgium and three visitors from Spain were missing. It also said two people each from Italy, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Ireland and the Netherlands were missing.Another 10 people, one each from Belarus, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Serbia and Sweden, were also reported missing.
