Cops to seek extradition of bizman accused of attempted murder

Vadodara: A Fiji-based businessman allegedly involved in a murder attempt in the city will have to face extradition. City police will soon begin the process to apply for extradition of Jay Dayal who is accused of ordering the murder of 37-year-old Ashish Bakoliya, a city-based businessman.“We will make efforts to extradite Dayal as he is a key accused in the case. The process is long drawn and hence it may take time to bring him to India. We have evidence linking Dayal to those who attacked Bakoliya,” said Vadodara DSP (rural) Sushil Agrawal. Cops stated that Dayal had paid money to one of his employees Vikram Pratap Singh for the contract killing of Bakoliya.“Investigations point at a financial dispute between Dayal and Bakoliya who left Fiji and returned to India two-and-a-half years ago. Bakoliya used to work with Dayal in Fiji,” they added. Bakoliya used to work as a financial manager in Dayal’s company.Vikram flew down to India in April this year and hired Gurjeet alias Gurmeet Singh Bhatti from his hometown in Chhattisgarh. Both Vikram and Gurjeet visited Vadodara several times to do a recce of Bakoliya’s movements. “They tried to kill Bakoliya seven to eight times but failed each time as he was accompanied by someone. Vikram and Gurjeet once drove from Chhattisgarh to Vadodara on a motorbike,” stated Agrawal. On the night of June 26, the duo got an opportunity to kill Bakoliya, a garment trader, as he was travelling alone. While Vikram rode the motorbike, Gurjeet fired shots at him on Waghodia Road. “A bullet pierced Bakoliya’s shoulder and got lodged near his lungs. He was rushed to the hospital and it took doctors three days to remove the bullet,” a police official said.Cops immediately began searching for the duo on the basis of CCTV footage and their motorbike’s movements. Investigators tracked them to Chhattisgarh and took the help of local police to nab them. “Vikram was set to fly out of India on July 7 but we tracked him down in time. He had paid Rs 80,000 to Gurjeet to buy a pistol. We will interrogate both the accused to gather more evidence about Dayal’s involvement,” stated Agrawal.
