NEW DELHI: A licensed pistol carried by an Air India Express passenger at Varanasi airport “accidentally” went off during security screening on Sunday morning, injuring a female security staffer and another person.Both injured people were taken to a private hospital for treatment.According to a statement issued by DCP Gomti Zone, the passenger, identified as Kamlesh Rai from Azamgarh district, had arrived at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport with his wife to board Air India Express flight IX1810 to Mumbai.

The bullet hit a female security staffer in the leg and another person nearby on the thumb, injuring both.After receiving information about the incident, senior police officers, including the DCP Gomti Zone and ACP Pindra, reached the airport.Police said the site is being inspected and details of the incident are being collected. Appropriate legal action is being taken, the statement said.
