‘Drishyam 3: The Conclusion’ director Abhishek Pathak has revealed how the makers approached the franchise’s final chapter while trying to stay ahead of an audience that has spent years dissecting Vijay Salgaonkar’s every move. In a recent interview, Pathak said Tabu’s Meera Deshmukh remains central to the story, with her pursuit of closure and revenge shaping the film, while the writing team deliberately avoided relying on fan theories to crack an unexpected plot twist.

In an interview with Mid Day, talking about the writing process, Pathak said the team was aware that audiences had already spent considerable time speculating about how Vijay Salgaonkar, played by Ajay Devgn, could escape the consequences of his actions once again.Rather than allowing existing fan theories to dictate the narrative, the makers consciously attempted to find an angle that viewers would not anticipate. Pathak said the team wanted to be more unpredictable than the audience and spent considerable time working out the one element that people might have overlooked.“We had to be smarter than anyone in the theatre. It’s a film where people are making their own theories. We were trying to [steer] away from that because we wanted to do something that people are not expecting. We had to think what could be the one thing that people couldn’t guess or had overlooked. It took time to crack that,” he told Mid-day.

Pathak also explained that Meera Deshmukh’s emotional journey forms the backbone of the final chapter. The character has spent years trying to find answers following the death of her son, and the director wanted to ensure that her pursuit of justice did not turn her into an entirely negative character.According to Pathak, Meera’s approach to justice has evolved over the course of the franchise. Having previously attempted to follow the law, she now begins to question whether the conventional route can actually deliver the closure she seeks.“She tried to go by the book in part one and even two, but now she wants to go a different way. [Going by the book] is not how she believes justice will be served. It will be interesting to watch how the Deshmukhs will change their way in this film,” he said.
