MUMBAI: The city Crime Branch probing the abetment to suicide of IIT Bombay second-year student Sahil Wakode has collected CCTV footage showing his movements during the examination in which he was allegedly caught copying.According to investigators, footage from September 18 shows Wakode inside the examination hall between around 12.30 pm and 12.45 pm, when the semester examination was nearing its end.The footage allegedly shows him bending down and looking at a mobile phone kept in his pocket. Police are examining the allegation that he was using ChatGPT to answer questions during the examination.The footage then shows the invigilator noticing Wakode’s movements and approaching him. The invigilator is seen taking his answer sheet and asking the student to follow him out of the examination hall.The footage shows Sahil getting up, collecting his belongings and preparing to leave. He appears to be handing over something to the invigilator, who is not in the frame.Police on Wednesday recorded statements of three students who were reportedly close to Wakode.The Crime Branch is yet to record professor Suryanarayana Dolla’s statement. Officers said they first want to collect available digital evidence and record statements of other witnesses before questioning him about the incident.Investigators are also examining Wakode’s movements after he left the examination hall.The sequence beginning around 12.30 pm on September 18 has assumed significance in the investigation as police seek to establish Wakode’s movements and interactions in the hours before his death.Investigators are also examining allegations of discrimination or harassment in connection with the incident.
