A man was arrested on Monday after attacking three women with two kitchen knives near Paris’s Porte de Clichy, with two severely wounded and one in critical condition, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said.The attack occurred at around 11.30 am local time. The victims, aged 19, 24 and 36, were taken to hospital. One of the women, believed to be pregnant, is in critical condition, police said.Nunez said the man was detained by an off-duty police officer. “I pay tribute to him, it was a courageous act,” he added.Video aired on social platform X show a man with long black hair, wearing a cream tracksuit and wielding one big knife in each hand, stabbing and attempting to attack a young woman. Another part of the video shows the same man lying on the ground immobilized by bystanders, while the two knives lie nearby on a pedestrian crossing.“It is Allah who commanded me,” the man said while lying on the floor.Nunez said the motive remains unknown, adding that police could not verify the identity of the attacker, whose declarations were “incoherent” while he was being arrested. The suspect is believed to have mental health issues.The French national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office said it was weighing whether to open an investigation.Metro and tram stations in the Porte de Clichy area have been closed.The attack comes two days after an Islamist radical in Berlin ploughed a rented minivan into a Pride parade, killing one woman and wounding 29.
